Since its inception in 2018, the American experimental bass music label VALE has established itself as a fan collective more than a traditional imprint, and therefore they have also become known for releasing numerous compilation albums (the name means Various Artists, Limitless Expression, After All). Fortunately, due to incredible A&R preservation and impeccable taste, each has been more innovative, technically clean, and just plain impressive than the last. If the first pieces of their new Global extraction compilation series are all it takes, this will be no exception to this rule.
As the name suggests, the Global extraction The series sees the VALE team researching new artists and compiling tracks from all over the world. This is a new concept for American bass labels, especially those of the D&B variety, which generally stick with American artists. VALE releases the first volume of Global extraction piece by piece and therefore far from the tracks that have already been deposited on the label’s Soundcloud, are artists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Seattle and now, with this premiere, from Perth, Australia .
Bold theory is not completely green; Hybris and his label Pseudoscience recruited him last year for a criminally underrated breakout EP called Approach zero last year, and prior to that, he featured on Perthian Dead Zodiac’s ProtoCode Music both on the compilation and with his own standalone tracks. Now, after hitting VALE with their disturbingly minimalist D&B track “Never Safe”, Bold Theory has rounded out the trio of cool experimental labels.
In terms of rhythm, “Never Safe” is quite sparse and, although it is a dancey and bubbly track in the way it moves, it relies on the ambient sound design to make its main points. It must have been a killer to make, between the two sets of catchy and opposing snares, the ornamental sine wave synth cutouts that punctuate every phrase, the spooky vox sample and the background ambient work, there is no really no escape from the sound bomb that is this track. All these elements give the listener the impression of being in orbit around a black hole after a kind of intergalactic ordeal, awaiting his sentence of spaghettification. That’s all you want in a D&B track, so hopefully the fans get it this time.
There is much more to come Global extraction vol. 1, including a piece of rising D&B star Waeys and a darling VALE absolute crusher and recent NÃU alum, Result. The extensive global A&R campaign has certainly paid off for VALE on this new compilation series. Hoping that he continues to disseminate all these varied artists and this limitless expression to the masses.
Global extraction vol. 1 will be released in full by November 8, and “Never Safe” will be out on its own and purchasable this Thursday, October 14. To hear all the tracks released to date as well as a teaser mix and stay up to date on upcoming tracks, click here.
