IN DRUM: Eastern Illinois will play two games over the weekend for the second week in a row as the Panthers host Chicago State on Friday afternoon and travel to Cincinnati on Sunday night. EIU played a swing Friday / Sunday last week at Purdue Fort Wayne and Wisconsin, winning a tie at PFW before losing to Wisconsin. EIU enters the weekend at 1-2-1 overall. Chicago State enters the week 0-2 while Cincinnati has gone 2-1-1 this season.

PLAY ADDITIONAL SOCCER: Eastern Illinois and Purdue Fort Wayne played a 0-0 double overtime draw last Friday night. It was the Panthers’ first overtime football game of the season. Last spring, EIU saw three of its ten games go into overtime, with the Panthers going 1-1-1 in those three games. Under the head coach Jake crashes it was the 16th time that EIU had an overtime game. The Panthers are 1-4-11 in overtime over the past four seasons.

CLOSURE SERIES: With last Friday’s 0-0 draw at Purdue Fort Wayne, it marked the goaltender’s second shutout of the season. Faith Davies. The tie gave the Panthers back-to-back games without any opponent goals. It was the first time since early October 2019 that EIU has posted back-to-back shutouts. During this season, EIU mirrored its 2021 scoring results with a 3-0 win over Morehead State and a 0-0 draw with Southern Illinois. This year it was a 3-0 win over Illinois Springfield, followed by a 0-0 draw against Purdue Fort Wayne.

ANUCI BRACE LEADS THE MARKING OF THE PANTHERS: Nicoletta Anuci scored a brace in the Panthers’ 3-0 win over Illinois Springfield in the first week of the season. Anuci currently leads the Panthers in scoring, as the Panthers also have goals this year in Zenaya barnes and Michaela Danyo. Last season in ten matches played in the spring semester, EIU scored just five goals in total with Anuci and Itxasso Aguero team leaders with two goals each.

VS. THE BIG TEN: Eastern Illinois played against Big Ten member Wisconsin last Sunday, marking the first time EIU has played a Big Ten Conference member since the 2012 season, when the Panthers lost 2-1 in overtime at Purdue. EIU faced Illinois this season in an exhibition game, falling 1-0 to Illini. The Panthers are 2-11 against the Big Ten Conference. This week, EIU faces Cincinnati from the American Athletic Conference. The Panthers are 1-2 all-time against AAC members with all three fights against Memphis.

FIFTH YEAR LEADERS: In eastern Illinois, three players took advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the impact of COVID-19 on the fall 2020 season. EIU fires fifth-year players Itxasso Aguero, Pilar barrio and Eva Munoz. The three players from Spain will be back after starting matches in each of the previous four seasons.

BALCEREK LISTED AS OVC PLAYER TO WATCH: Midfielder Kenzie Balcerek has been named this year’s OVC EIU player to watch as she returns for her third year as a team starter. Balcerek played every minute but six on the field last spring, finishing with an assist. As a rookie in 2019, she started the first 11 games of the season registering an assist before a season-ending injury.

THREE ONE MAGIC NUMBER: Eastern Illinois scored three goals in their Aug. 22 win over Illinois Springfield. It was the sixth time in the past four seasons that EIU has scored three goals in a game, with the Panthers going 6-0 in those games. EIU’s last three-goal game came last spring with a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville State on March 30.

SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Illinois and the State of Chicago meet for the seventh time on the field Friday afternoon with the Panthers leading the all-time series 6-0. EIU won the last contest between the two schools 3-1 in the 2019 campaign. It will be EIU’s first game against Cincinnati when the two schools face off on Sunday.

FOLLOWING : Eastern Illinois will play just one game next week as the Panthers host central Michigan on Sunday, September 12.

THE HEAD COACH: Jake Plant is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Eastern Illinois Women’s Soccer Team. A former EIU student in 2014 and a former member of the Panthers’ men’s football program, Plant served as an assistant coach in the men’s and women’s program for two years with an additional season as an assistant in the men’s program before being appointed coach. -EIU female leader in 2018. Plant led EIU to a 6-8-6 record in her debut season, including a 4-3-3 record in the OVC game. In 2019, he again took EIU to the OVC tournament by winning a first round match. He enters his fourth season 12-25-11 with an 8-15-7 record in OVC games. He is originally from Birmingham, England. He is assisted by Dirk Bennett.
