PHILIPPI — The high school playoff honors were revealed just days after four state champions were crowned Saturday at Beckley.
Two-time Class AA-A runner-up Philip Barbour placed twin sisters and juniors Arrington Sparks (forward) and Braylyn Sparks (midfielder) and senior Darcy Knight (defender) in the teams’ first unit of the West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association. .
Elkins, who lost to the Lady Colts in the regional title game, saw second Addy Cogar (forward) and senior Alexa Price (midfielder) earn second-team honors.
Juniors Lady Tiger Laney Fletcher (defender) and Gracelin Corley (keeper) were cited as honorable mention.
In Class AAA, Buckhannon-Upshur senior forward Chloe Cale made the honorable mention list.
In the Class AA-A men’s team, Elkins senior forward Max Jackson was ranked in the second team, while senior teammate Isaiah Sigley (defender) and Philip Barbour senior forward Jake Davies and the second-year midfielder Connely Sparks were listed as an honorable mention.
BU seniors Josh Gregory (defender) and Dalton Auvil (goalkeeper) have been named to the Class AAA second team.
The Big 10 Conference teams were also announced.
Braylyn Sparks was named league player of the year, while PB’s Blake Williams was named coach of the year.
Braylyn and Arrington Sparks, Knight and Layna “Turkey” Grassi represented the Lady Colts in the first team, along with Lady Tigers’ Cogar and BU’s Cale.
Price, Fletcher and Corley were Elkins’ second-team selections, while the Lady Bucs were represented by Ava Hollen and Allison Andrew.
Jackson from Elkins and Gregory and Auvil from BU made the Big 10 Boys first team.
The second-team laurels went to BU’s Christian Dowell and PB’s Davies and Sparks.
