Red-Hot Hofstra returns home to welcome St. Joseph’s Day


Hempstead, NY — The Hofstra University men’s soccer team, undefeated in eight games, returns home Tuesday night to face Saint Joseph’s in a non-conference game. Kick-off at the Hofstra football stadium is set for 7 p.m.

Pride enter the game with an 8-2-1 record. The team is 7-0-1 in its last eight games and is coming off a 2-1 win over Colonial Athletic Association rival UNCW. The win, coupled with a tie with Elon, put Hofstra in a stalemate with the Phoenix atop the CAA standings at 4-1-1.

Eliot Goldthorp, who was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Pride with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. The second-year midfielder also leads the CAA in scoring. Ryan Carmichael has 12 points on five goals and two assists, while Oliver Svalander has 10 points on three goals and four assists. Wessel Speel has a 1.01 goals-against average and 23 saves.

Saint Joseph’s is 2-4-6 overall this season and has back-to-back 0-0 draws heading into the game. Blake Driehuis has two goals to lead the Hawks, while Garrett Lyons and Omry Perel each have one goal and three assists for a team-high five points. Luis Ludosan has a 0.90 goals-against average and 39 saves.

Hofstra is 3-8-3 against Saint Joseph’s. Pride beat the Hawks last season in Philadelphia, 2-1, behind goals from Carmichael and Tatafu Mason.

Following the match against Saint Joseph’s, Pride will host Elon on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a battle for the top spot in CAA.
