She will be responsible for the overall management of the team’s soccer operations and will report directly to the property, according to a team press release.

“We are delighted to add someone of Cami’s caliber to the current management team,” co-owner Angie Long said in a statement. “Cami is a born leader with enormous football knowledge and an extensive football network.

“As we continue to strive to set the standard for our sport and our league, we have no doubt that Cami will help us achieve our goals.”

The Current, who changed their name to KC NWSL at the end of 2021, recently selected Washington State University forward Elyse Bennett with his first-round pick in the NWSL Draft. The Current has also selected three other players who they hope will contribute in 2022 and beyond.

One of Levin’s main business subjects in his new role as CEO will be hiring a new head coach. Huw Williams, who was the team’s head coach in his first 2021 season, was reassigned late last year to a post in which he identifies talent.

She also happens to be a former Stanford teammate of current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta. They helped the Cardinal win his first NCAA Championship in 2011. Levin went on to play professionally with the Swedish team Gothenburg (2012-13) and the Western Sydney Wanderers (2013-14) in Australia.

Levin went on to play for former NWSL (now Gotham FC) Sky Blue FC in 2014 before being selected by Orlando Pride in the 2015 NWSL Extension Draft. She also played for the Houston Dash in 2017 and the Norwegian team VÃ¥lerenga in 2018.

Most recently, Levin was vice president of Blueprint Sports & Media Entertainment. where she was responsible for all athlete-related activities with the company, according to Current’s introductory press release on her hiring. Prior to that, she was responsible for talent development for WWE, handling all aspects of recruiting and managing talent for the professional wrestling organization.

“It’s an honor to join Kansas City Current as general manager,” Levin said in the team’s press release Thursday. “I am thrilled to be part of an organization with an unwavering vision to become a world leader, not only in women’s football, but in sport.

“The Longs and Brittany Matthews continue to build an organization with a strong commitment to a ‘player-first’ approach, starting with a significant investment in the organization and in Kansas City. As a former NWSL player, I sincerely appreciate and respect the history of this league and believe in its bright future with KC in mind. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to joining the team.

The current is scheduled to open the preseason camp on February 1. The annual NWSL Challenge Cup begins March 19. The team will play 14 home league games at Children’s Mercy Park in 2022 as construction of a brand new purpose-built stadium begins along the city center. By the KC River in Berkley Park.
