RICHARDSON, Texas – Kaley Kaspar recorded two goals and three assists in the CSA’s first week of play, propelling the Concordia Texas women’s soccer team to two wins, and the league office named her Player. CSA defense of the week Monday.
The junior forward has been a central part of the Tornados’ offense, scoring or assisting on five of CTX’s eight goals for the week, and her offensive production led the team to a hot 2-0 start in conference after going. won the victory over LeTourneau and East Baptiste of Texas.
In Game 1, Kaspar responded to the Yellowjackets ‘quick goal with his own score in the fifth minute, tying the game at 1-1 after finding the back of the net for the Tornados’ first goal of the day. Just four minutes later, Kaspar assisted Emily Mowrer on the game-winning goal, winning the first of her two assists in the game and giving CTX a 2-1 lead.
After another Tornados goal, Kaspar pressed the offense again, registering another assist after preparing Kallie Krenz for the score, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of Concordia Texas in the 23rd minute. Ultimately, CTX would hold on to win the game 5-1, earning their first conference victory of the season.
Against the Tigers, the Brazoria, Texas native assisted on the game’s opening goal, finding Patricia Heckendorn for the score in the 58th minute, giving CTX a 1-0 advantage. Kaspar then scored his own goal, piercing a shot into the back net and extending the Tornados lead to 2-0. Despite an ETBU comeback effort, Concordia Texas held on to win the game 3-2.
This marks the first time Kaspar has received the CSA Player of the Week honors, and she is the first Tornado to win the award since teammate Kylie Bowman won the Defensive Player of the Week award. ASC on February 9, 2021.
Concordia Texas will look to continue its solid game of late when it returns home Thursday, facing ASC nemesis UT Dallas in Round Rock, TX at 5 p.m. ET.
