Clarksville, Tennessee – Freshman Haley Patterson scored her first career goal in the ninth minute to give the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team an early lead, but a North Dakota goal to the 35th minute tied the game and led to a 1-1 brace. Austin Peay (3-4-2) came on early when Alec Baumgardt fired a shot on goal from outside the 18-yard box; North Dakota goalie (2-5-1) Madi Livingston managed to save Baumgardt’s shot, but she couldn’t get the free ball back and Patterson took a shot from the back of the net to give the advantage to the APSU Govs, 1-0, in the ninth minute.
Patterson’s first career goal made her the third Austin Peay State University rookie to find the back of the net this season and came thanks to Baumgardt’s second assist.
North Dakota nearly tied the game less than a minute after Patterson’s goal when a Cassie Giddings shot slipped past a slippery Peyton Powell, but Clara Heistermann kept the Fighting Hawks off the board with a clearance timely from the goal line.
In the 35th minute, North Dakota was able to get on the scoreboard when a free kick deflected an Austin Peay State University player for an own goal. With the game tied, neither team landed another shot for the remainder of the half, and the score remained tied, 1-1, at the break.
The APSU governors had shots on target from Anna McPhie and Rachel Bradberry in the 52nd and 68th minutes, respectively, but the North Dakota goalie was up to it and made both saves. The Austin Peay State University defense held North Dakota without a shot on goal in the second half and the game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Patterson landed the only shot on goal for the APSU Governors in overtime, but his 103rd-minute goal was saved by Livingston. The Fighting Hawks fired just one shot on target in each of two overtime periods, but neither were able to beat Powell, who ended the night with three saves.
